Ciqual 2012 will provide nutritional values of :

  • 57 components: energy, macronutrients, vitamins and minerals

This database is implemented by Que-Manger SAS with an open license as part of the open public data programme (Open Data) managed by Etalab.

The Canadian Nutrient File

Published by the Ministry "Health Canada" (, it provides nutritional reference on :

  • More than 5807 foods
  • 150 components: energy , macronutrients, vitamins and minerals

This database is used in conjunction with the Ciqual database in the fee paying value added services of the site.

The Recommended Nutritional Intake for the French Population

This reference book, coordinated by Professor Ambroise Martin, brings together contributions from leading experts in the field of nutrition.

The recommended nutritional intake (RNI) values are chosen by the group of experts that take into account not only scientific data concerning nutritional needs but also dietary habits and motivations of those studied to the extent that these habits are not harmful to health.

Que Manger SAS has integrated these references into a database, setting the data according to sex, age and pregnancy and breast-feeding status for women.

To facilitate the collection and analysis of food for users of the site by Nutrimeter ®, additional food items have been added to these nutritional databases :

  • Commercial products with nutritional information supplied by the manufacturers on the packaging of their products. The information comes from databases of partners selected by Que Manger SAS.
  • Recipes, which are vetted by the Que Manger teams.

Recipes, commercial products and foods from the Ciqual CNF databases all include a list of the ingredients they contain, according to a nomenclature of a thousand ingredients established by Que Manger and its partners. This allows for advanced searches of all the proposed foods according to their composition, and also to filter for intolerances and allergies according to the user’s food profile.

Taking into account information provided by users on their sex, age, height, weight, physical activity and status for women (pregnancy, breast feeding) and food consumption, the Nutrimeter® provides an analysis of the dietary intake, in accordance with the values provided by the databases described above.

This analysis can in no way considered as substitute for medical advice in case of health problems.

For visitors to the site, basic data inputs are those covered by Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the European Council of 25 October 2011 on consumer information on food. It defines the values for Recommended Daily Intakes (RDI) that are used by the Nutrimeter®. The term Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) is also used.

A statement of these databases and their use in this service was to French CNIL under number 1570309.
